We empower survivors of abuse, violence and trafficking to be able to reintegrate into our community and live independently
Shandra Woworuntu is a human trafficking survivor. Escaping from her traffickers in 2001, she started to help other survivors. She assisted girls and women, all victims of labor trafficking and helped them step out back into the world. Many survivors even lived with Shandra until employment.
Ima Matul is an advocate and activist of anti human trafficking. Ima is a survivor of child labor trafficking and works tirelessly to empower victims to step out from their situation and connect them to helpful resources. After meeting Shandra Woworuntu in 2014, who had a similarity passion to fight human trafficking, the pair decided to work together to help empower survivors.
Randall Roca, a retired Detective from the New York Police Department and Chris Heuertz, an activist and advocate of anti-human trafficking who worked with Mother Teresa in India, met the two in Omaha, Nebraska. They then decided to support survivors of human trafficking in a larger collaborative effort. Mentari Human Trafficking Survivor Empowerment Program Inc. with the status 501 (C) 3 was established.
By 2015, Ima Matul and Shandra Woworuntu were appointed by Barack Obama to be members of The First U.S. Advisory Council on Human Trafficking to Presidential Integration Task Force.
